The three stones are attached to a pair of rotating knobs, and switching through them is extremely easy and convenient.
Depending on the type of knife you can use the 400 grit Coarse Synthetic stone, the 600 grit Medium Synthetic stone and 1000-1200 grit Fine Arkansas stone.
All of them are mounted on a strong piece of molded plastic triangle.
When it comes to the base, it has been designed to be sturdy and strong, made out of molded plastic. On the bottom there are the nonskid rubber feet which make sure the sharpening system stays firmly in place.
It is very easy to clean it, especially thanks to the “V” trough incorporated to collect all the drippings from the oils, preventing the system to make a real mess.
Once you are done sharpening your knife or knives, you need to make sure the stones are properly cleaned and free of metal particles which can damage them.
That being said, after using the system, scrub the stones with water, soap (preferably liquid) and a nylon brush, and quite vigorously so.
